Chapter 01
The History of CMIC
A Strong Commitment to “Change” That Has Remained Unchanged Since Our Founding
Creating “Something From Nothing” Over and Over Again
I joined the CMIC Group as an executive only several years ago, while my connection with CMIC dates back more than 30 years.
At that time, I, as someone outside the company, supported the drafting of business and financial strategies led by Dr. Nakamura, the founder of CMIC, and was indirectly involved in the growth of CMIC’s business.
Through this experience, I am deeply impressed and empathized with the fact that from the very beginning, CMIC has consistently upheld a clear mission to “revolutionize healthcare” and developed its business while sincerely facing the future of healthcare in Japan.
At the time of CMIC’s founding, the term “CRO (Contract Research Organization)” did not even exist.
Nevertheless, with its fundamental mission to “deliver the latest healthcare to patients as soon as possible,” CMIC has boldly tackled every challenge and change without preconceived notions, creating “something from nothing” on numerous occasions.
CMIC has positively embraced changes in times and environments and continued to make dynamic changes.
What will remain unchanged is its attitude of continuously creating “something from nothing” and the belief that all its activities are fundamentally “for the sake of the patients.”

Chapter 02 The Evolving CMIC
Turning Dramatic Changes in the Healthcare Industry Into the Biggest Opportunity
Creating a “System” Only CMIC Can Do
The healthcare industry is undergoing a period of unprecedented change.
At the same time, CMIC has an unprecedented opportunity coming its way.
The healthcare industry faces a wide range of challenges, including the rise of biologics, a decline in Japan’s ability to develop new drugs, and a reconsideration of the drug pricing system. Among the most serious issues is the problem of “drug lag” and “drug loss” associated with the shrinking global share of Japan’s pharmaceutical market.
Against this backdrop, CMIC has entered into a strategic capital alliance with a private equity fund managed by a group company of Blackstone Inc. (hereinafter “Blackstone”), which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
The purpose of this alliance is to create “a new mechanism to eliminate drug lag and drug loss” that can only be realized by CMIC and Blackstone.
This mechanism becomes feasible only under the leadership of CMIC, which takes pride in its overwhelming trust and track record, having been involved in approximately 80% of all new drugs in Japan.
We believe that we can make the most of CMIC’s unique assets—diverse skills and know-how cultivated over many years—to create a significant impact on the entire healthcare industry and on all patients.
*Drug lag refers to the phenomenon where there is a time lag between the approval and sale of a new drug overseas and its approval and sale in Japan.
Drug loss refers to the situation where a drug that has already been approved and sold overseas is not developed or sold in Japan, making it unavailable.

Chapter 03
The Type of Talent CMIC Seeks
Turning the “Biggest Challenge” in CMIC’s History Into the “Greatest Leap”
We Are Looking for People Who Can Enjoy “Change” Together
CMIC is embarking on the biggest “challenge” since its founding.
An unprecedented initiative naturally involves failures.
We believe, however, that it is precisely those “failures” that are necessary processes to lead change to success. Therefore, failures resulting from challenges are most welcome.
It doesn’t matter whether you are a new hire or a veteran employee.
While CMIC has a wealth of skills and know-how, we want you to break free from “the usual” and “the conventional ways” and create new value with your flexible ideas, paving the way for CMIC’s future.
If it benefits the patients, it is even possible to change the rules themselves.
We are looking for people who have a fresh perspective, take on challenges dynamically without fear of failure, and truly enjoy change and growth.
There is no need to worry if you lack specialized medical or healthcare knowledge. We have a comprehensive training system in place, and you can thoroughly learn after joining the company.
You will also have reliable colleagues and medical experts who will think and act together with you on “how to make it possible.”
Why don’t you join us and work together to create “a new system” that can only be realized at CMIC?
Together, with everyone’s combined efforts, let’s achieve the “greatest leap” in CMIC’s history.
